It will comfortably accompany you through your first two to three years of playing, and many musicians continue to use it for much longer.
The neck (Sao) is made from Japanese Karin wood. Although it is more affordable than premium hardwoods such as Kouki or Shitan, it offers a significantly better tone than many other beginner shamisen.
The body (Dou) is also made from Karin—a wood that is commonly used even in many considerably more expensive shamisen.
This upgrade helps prevent the tuning pegs from slipping. Here's a video (in Japanese) that demonstrates how they work and also shows what they look like. If you order with these, I'll certainly instruct you on how to use them after your purchase.
My personal opinion: If you value convenience and like their appearance, this upgrade is definitely worth considering. However, if your shamisen is tuned correctly and the tuning pegs are properly maintained, they normally won't slip in the first place.
